A Love Letter

Elmosesamestreet Dear Elmo,

Children across America (and the world) love you.  Your sweet voice, your adorable laugh, your innocence, the fact that you are little just like them.  Kids love you.  My son loves you. And I love you too.

But that’s not why am I writing.  This isn’t your typical thank you letter.  What I really want to thank you for is giving me back my sex life.  I know it sounds a little creepy that I’d be thanking a pint-sized red monster from world renowned educational children's show.  I don’t mean any disrespect.

But you see, Elmo, you captivate my son.  If you are on the TV, then he’s stuck on the couch like glue.  He won’t get up – the kid won’t even move a finger.  He’ll stare into your big eyes and stay still until the show is over.  And that gives this working mother a little time to “work it” with her working man.  We get time to be together and not worry about our little monster accidentally coming into our room.  We can be together in a way that adults are to be together when kids aren’t asking for more juice, another snack, or pound on the door and ask why mommy locked it.  And we don’t have to wait until a certain someone is fast asleep either.  Just pop in an Elmo’s World video (doesn’t matter that he’s seen it a hundred times) and we get 30 minutes of adult paradise.

I heart you, Elmo.  For more reasons that you can imagine.  You just keep on being you.  And I’ll keep on being with daddy during Elmo’s World.
