How to Avoid Missing Your Kids on a Business Trip
Okay, I confess, I really enjoy getting away, even if it's for work. I miss my kids, of course, but a few nights alone in a hotel, combined with free food and drink is all I need to refresh me. But here are other ways I managed to brave my way through the week without missing the kids.
.
- Margaritas and steak with my sister and her family at the Texas Roadhouse - hee haw!
- Finding out I have the honorary title of "coolest aunt" as deemed by my nephew. And that was before I gave him a set of lego cars.
- Watching my sister, a lawyer, slowly put together a giant Nitro Muscle lego car until I finally made her go to sleep. I totally had the coolest booth as I was giving legos out as my giveaway and prizes at the conference. Of course we couldn't do this without wine.
- Hearing "good job riding the bull" from a VP before he bought us a round of tequlia shots. Yes, I rode the bull at Gilley's (where we had the big conference party), and didn't even fall off (although I did have to ask the guy to stop as my hand was slowly crushed under the rope, and I envisioned myself impaled on the horns). Even funnier was when I found out my fellow engineers had actually helped to fix the electronics to make the bull work.
- And finally, rockin' out to Foxboro Hot Tubs, baby, in a small smoky bar we discovered right upstairs from Gilley's at the Loft. How could I say no to "Hey, Green Day's playing upstairs at 10:30 - for $20. Wanna go?"
