Getting Motivated To Clean
My house is often a bit of a mess. It’s not that I don’t know how to clean, it’s that most of the time I just don’t want to! I’ve had to find new ways to get motivated for housework to make sure chaos doesn’t reign. Here are my tried and tested ways to work up the willpower for a good scrub.
Get The Kids Involved
When the pressure is on to set a good example, cleaning can be easy and fun. If your kids are old enough, assign them chores and agree that you’re all going to work together. This is a great way to teach kids about cleaning while make sure it gets done- once you’ve announced it to the family, you won’t be able to put it off.
Invite People Over
We all know that nothing gets your house cleaner than the imminent threat of guests arriving. Invite friends over regularly for dinner or just a visit and a chat. This way, you have a deadline to work towards and good reason to get cleaning.
Get A Project
If you’re faced with a rainy, boring Saturday and have some time on your hands, make your home your project. Re-arrange a room and give it a new look- this will give you the opportunity to tidy and will make you feel more motivated to get it looking great.
Set Small Goals
If everything is in a huge mess and there are toys everywhere and a pile of dishes to face, try to break it down into smaller, manageable goals. Tell yourself that you’ll deal with just one room that afternoon and that the rest can wait- this will make the situation feel less overwhelming and will help you get started. Hopefully, once you’ve finished one task you’ll feel energized and motivated to complete the rest.
