Organize Your Closet
On an organization kick? Now is the perfect time to get that messy closet in order. In my home, the closets are the place I find that things get the most chaotic- clothes get thrown in and everything is jumbled and confused- so a regular organizing session is crucial to maintaining my sanity.
This task can feel pretty overwhelming, so by breaking it down into small, simple steps you’ll be able to get your closet looking brand new in no time with minimal stress.
Your first step should be to do a major wardrobe edit. Keeping things you no longer way could be a major contributing factor to your heaving closet, so go through everything and reduce the clutter that’s taking up space. If you haven’t worn something for years and it isn’t your wedding dress, it has to go.
Everything In Its Place
If you’re currently operating on a “throw it all in” system, try to re-think the way your closet is organized. Put similar items near one another, make sure matching outfits are together and sort your clothes into pants, blouses, sweaters and so on. This will make getting dressed in the morning far faster, and make your life easier. If you’re feeling particularly ambitious, you could color-code your clothes or organize them into categories like “work”, “casual” and “formal.”
Don’t have a closet that caters for shoes and accessories? Get some extra shelving in and utilize your vertical space. These will make it extra easy to keep your shoes and handbags contained in an orderly fashion.
Can’t see anything when you’re trying to pick out an outfit in the morning? Add some lighting to make everything more visible. This will also give your closet a more room-like feel, and will inspire you to make sure it’s always looking its best.
